In the Autobiography of a Yogi, Paramahansa Yogananda describes his intensive spiritual training, as young Mukunda, under his sublime guru Swami Sri Yukteswar Giri in the Serampore ashram on Rai Ghat Lane. In honor of Swami Sri Yukteswarji and in the memory of his monumental role behind the worldwide mission of the spread of Kriya Yoga (manifested through Gurudeva as 'Self Realization Fellowship' in USA and 'Yogoda Satsanga Society of India' in India) a Smriti Mandir was dedicated in 1977 by Sri Sri Mrinalini Mata (former President of YSS/SRF); Paramahansa Yogananda's youngest sister Purnamayi Sarkar (Thamu)--then a resident of Serampore--was also present during the dedication ceremony.

Amazing place for meditation . Took one hour from Kolkata . The caretaker is a wonderful person . He is available all the time and opens the place for meditation based on requirements. Overall a great place to connect with Kriya yoga as taught by the great saint Sri Shyamacharan Lahiri & Sri Yukteswar Giri.
We had blissful meditation with our kids. The shop owner is kind enough to contact the caretaker of the temple when we arrived. He is YSS appointed staff. We sat down and meditated, it is serene and well maintained. The flowers adorned the holy place of Swami Sri Yukteswarar. It is around 18KM from Kolkata which takes about 1 hour drive due to traffic and road condition. It is a must visit by all devotees for spark of divinity.
