Honest Review: BFF Gym Newtown, DC Block - Poor Experience and Poor Personal trainers
When I joined BFF Gym, I was told I'd get guided training for 7 days. But it was unclear whether that meant 7 consecutive days or just 7 training sessions. My first trainer, Shourja Sir, didn't show up regularly and took 2 days off, so I only got 5 sessions. Then they said my trial was over and asked for more money for further guidance, which felt like a scam.
I had clearly informed them I was skinny and needed strength and muscle training, not weight loss. But the training was repetitive and heavily cardio-focused -- completely wrong for my goals. After complaining, they assigned me another trainer, Mr. Ashish Nandi, for another 7-day trial. Again, I only received 5 sessions. His workout chart was also unsuitable for my body type. As a beginner, I trusted it, but I ended up losing almost 6 kgs -- which was a huge setback for someone who struggles to gain weight even with proper diet.
Despite being upset, I didn't complain again. I assumed free trials might not include proper guidance. So I did my own research, built a workout and diet plan from YouTube, and slowly started seeing real progress and gained back some weight.
Now the main issue started -- during the trial, Ashish Sir acted friendly and supportive, so I thought he'd guide me casually even without taking his paid PT. But once the trial ended, his behavior changed. He became rude just because I wasn't following his cardio-heavy plan, even though it clearly didn't suit me.
Once, I was doing shoulder press with wrong form due to tiredness or weight. He said something unclear. I politely asked him to repeat, and he replied rudely:
"Why are you acting like you didn't hear? Don't be oversmart -- you're new here."
I told him I genuinely didn't understand, but he kept talking disrespectfully. I didn't argue as he was older and my former trainer.
Later, while he was on leave, one of his PT clients was exercising alone. He asked something about posture, and I casually said, "Yes, it's fine." After that, I heard the guy wanted to quit his PT with Ashish Sir. Out of nowhere, Ashish Sir accused me of "misguiding people" and "promoting against his PT." I never said anything against him. They had no proof and just blindly believed that person. I realized this was only because I didn't buy their PT -- their way of blaming and cornering me.
Another day, I was using the lat pulldown machine mid-set when Ashish Sir came and told me to leave it so his PT client could "quickly" use it. Why should I stop mid-exercise for someone else? That's not fair. And once, while I was chatting and working out with a friend, Ashish Sir rudely told me:
"Keep your talk and advice in your pocket."
Just because I wasn't in their PT program, even friendly conversations were frowned upon.
The gym's equipment is also poorly maintained. Out of 4 treadmills:
One never worked
One didn't incline
One shook dangerously
Only one worked fine -- so I had to wait often
Maintenance is irregular, and prices keep increasing without improvement in service. After all this, the trainers (at least 3 of them) became rude to me, likely because I had earlier complained about poor training and refused paid PT. They never admitted their mistakes -- not in training, not in behavior, not in equipment issues. They even treat honest feedback like mine as an "attack" or "negative advertising."
Eventually, I had to leave the gym. Now, I've joined another gym where the staff is friendly, helpful, and non-judgmental. Even during general training, they help you with form and guidance. That made me realize how toxic and unprofessional BFF Gym really was.
---
Final Advice: Avoid BFF Gym Newtown.
Misleading trial offers
Wrong training plans
Rude behavior
Poorly maintained equipments
Staff that pressures you into PT
No accountability
Treats feedback as personal attack
Especially avoid PT from Ashish Nandi -- rude, unhelpful, and gave me a completely wrong plan. Save your money, energy, and mental peace -- don't join it.

Joined BFF Gym a couple of months back and wanted to share my experience.
Shaurya sir is the kind of trainer who pushes you just enough to hate him during the workout but love him when you see actual results. He's intimidating at first glance, but is super chill, knows his stuff.
The gym itself is solid--clean, well-equipped, and full of positive vibes. But honestly, it's Shaurya who made it worth showing up even on rainy, pizza-craving days. 10/10 would recommend--just stretch beforehand. He's serious about warm-ups.
