If you are the kind of person who enjoys watching gym TVs, or if you say you're working out but you're actually checking out others (or yourself in the mirror), or if you find yourself touching your phone more than iron at the gym, let me tell you, this is NOT the place for you. But if you're serious about getting bigger, stronger, faster, more ripped. If you want to make the best of friends while whipping your bod into shape. If you want to take a break from sightseeing and lift some serious iron. Or if you just want to make some friends who have the same fitness goals as you. This is a compulsory stop for you. The name says it all - hardcore. Being a foreigner who was just in Gangtok for a few days, the PT allowed me to use the gym for a (come to think of it, ridiculously) low fee. The gym wasn't the biggest. The equipment wasn't spanking new. But it had everything I needed, and (almost) everything was in good working condition. The (assistant, I think) PT offered to help me out (many thanks to him spotting and supporting me with my squats!), and even the other regular customers were filled with typical Sikkimese hospitality. I spent some 90 minutes here, and could have easily stayed longer if time permitted. Throughout my one-week trip in India, the 90 minutes here was easily one of the most memorable and fulfilling (and mind you, I went to many interesting places). The location could be a little tricky to find. Once you see the sign board, walk down the stairs, past a restaurant and a lodge. From there, look around, there should be a flight of stairs heading down straight to the gym. I'm glad I spent the time to hunt it down - so worth it. Overall, highly recommended. In the (highly unlikely) event of me returning to Gangtok, I will definitely make great effort to drop by again. Side note: may not be very female-friendly.
