I spent an extraordinary two weeks here recently and it was just superb. I was there for a writers workshop but arrived a week early to have some time to myself - I wrote, ate the chef-cooked meals, swam in the divine pool, enjoyed my beautiful room with my private outdoor shower and spent hours sitting and reading in the many beautifully appointed outdoor common areas. I didn't have to worry about a thing, every meal was prepared by their Chef, Antony and the flavours were off the scale - I enjoyed Indian breakfasts, lunches and dinners but could also request anything else I wanted. Suresh the manager was kind and friendly and nothing was too. much trouble. I met Don, the owner who told me the history of the design and architecture of the property, as well as of Kerala. The stunning artisan woodwork of this retreat is mesmerising. I also enjoyed tours arranged through the Summer House. Including a river crossing in a canoe, visiting a Hindu temple, a generations-old tea house, a day trip to Fort Kochi as well as one to Munnar tea plantation. The writers retreat was enormously beneficial and of course, full of laughter and sharing. The Indian Summer House was stunning, friendly, and had the best pool of any place I've stayed - try a night swim! Talk about heaven. This is the kind of place that luxuriously lures you back year after year, and I'd be happy to do so.
